While in November 2020, a year full of restrictions due to the covid-19 pandemic, only 78 thousand tourists came to hotels in Czechia, last year in the same period there were almost 1 million of them. That is, 21% more than in November 2021. Compared to the pre-Covid 2019 year, however, there were still roughly 170,000 tourists missing last year. Although tourism is returning to Czechia, it is still driven by residents, while tourists from abroad are absent. This follows from the analyses of the Tourism Institute of the Czech Tourism Authority - CzechTourism, which are based on data published by the Czech Statistical Office.
At the end of last year, mainly people from neighbouring countries and domestic residents travelled to and around Czechia. 512,469 residents came to Czech and Moravian hotels, foreign tourists formed 482,720. The most of them came from Germany, 107.5 thousand (-10.8%), Slovakia 52.1 thousand (+2.9%) and Poland 34.5 thousand (+7.7%). (Note: the comparison in brackets refers to 2019)
"Last November, 30% fewer foreign tourists than before the pandemic in 2019 visited hotels in Czechia. Even though, Germans still represented the largest group of guests from abroad, they arrived by almost 11% less than before covid. British came 35% less, a total of 26.3 thousand, also came from, and Americans came a quarter less than in 2019, a total of 23.1 thousand. With the exception of the British and Americans, who occupied the imaginary fourth and fifth place in arrivals, stays in Czechia are driven by residents and neighbouring countries. Tourists from other countries are missing, so it is absolutely essential to support the restart of tourism," says Jan Herget, Director of the Czech Tourism Authority – CzechTourism and adds: "We are striving for this, we’re preparing a winter campaign, or a campaign focused on traditions. So that we can reach and attract more solvent guests to Czechia. The extent and impact of the campaign depends, among other things, on the budget for the tourist industry."
Last November, domestic hotels were used by domestic guests more than in 2019, by 8.3%. Not only them appreciated one of the largest tourist portals in Europe, Kudy z nudy, while travelling. In addition to tips for trips by region or activities, it also contains a continuously updated calendar of events and thematic pages by season. Currently, you can read and be inspired by, for example, 50 tips for the weekend from all over Czechia, look at the snow report and condition of the ski slopes or find out that caves are unusually open this winter.
"Kudy z nudy.cz is also not missing out the expected tourist news of 2023. From all over Czechia. You will, for example, learn that the Vitus Cathedral in Prague should receive a new organ this year, and an interactive Pilsner Urquell experience centre will open in the downtown of the capital. You will also find out that a new footbridge will lead through Ostravice, which will connect the centre of Ostrava with the Lower Vítkovice area. And, for example, a community centre with facilities for non-profit organizations will be created in Liebieg Palace in Liberec," says Director of the Product Management, Research and B2B Cooperation Department of the Czech Tourism Authority - CzechTourism Veronika Janečková and adds: "And if you come to Brno, where the traditional Travel Trade Day will take place in April, don't miss new multimedia exhibition in the renovated cellars of the New Town Hall."
