In August, hotel attendance in the Czech Republic was driven by tourists from abroad. A total of 737,427 arrived, which means a year-on-year increase of almost 90%. Guests from abroad made up more than 50% of the domestic hotel clientele in the last holiday month.
Germans (164 thousand), Poles (74.5 thousand), Slovaks (72.4 thousand) and Americans (37 thousand) came the most.

"Although it´s clear that foreign turnout is improving compared to the pandemic years, we haven´t reached the numbers of 2019 yet. They are lower by 24.4%. The lack of tourists from Russia and China still plays a role here," says Director of the Czech Tourism Authority - CzechTourism Jan Herget and adds: "Because we know that people are interested in how long, frequent and comfortable flights are when deciding where to go, we are working on improvement in the long term. Last time, we participated in a government economic mission under the banner of the Ministry of Transport to Canada. We discussed there a direct, and therefore more convenient and shorter, air connection.”

The statistics published by the Institute of Tourism of CzechTourism also show that Czech tourists used domestic hotels this August less than in last year. A year-on-year decrease of 14.5% means 736,882 arrivals. The current socio-economic situation could have already played a negative role here, when an even greater influence of high energy prices can be expected in autumn and winter.

"However, if we were to compare the number of Czech Republic residents´ visits of domestic hotels in August with the period before the covid-19 pandemic, arrivals have increased. They were 23.6% higher than in 2019," says Petr Janeček, Head of the Institute of Tourism of the Czech Tourism Authority - CzechTourism and adds: "While in the second month of summer holidays three years ago, 596,413 residents stayed in hotels in Czechia, a year later there were already 754,304 citizens of the Czech Republic, and last year there were even 861,994 domestic hotel guests."
