Almost half (47%) of Czechs are planning a winter vacation in the Czech Republic. Most often (25%) they want to rest and do light sports, 22% of people are planning an active holiday with sports. They mostly want to do hiking (57%) and go for light walks (56%). 34% of respondents are going to downhill ski, 27% to cross-country ski. These are the results of the December survey Plans of Czechs for a winter holiday from the Institute of Tourism of the Czech Tourism Authority - CzechTourism.
Czechs want to spend their winter vacation in the Czech Republic this year more than the last one, specifically by 4 p.p. Free days in the country during winter are not planned in Czechia by those who prefer a vacation in another period (50%) or are led to do so by a lack of finances (36%) or prefer a stay abroad (10%).

"Our research also shows that 54% of Czechs are planning to visit the Christmas markets in their place of residence and 27% will combine the visit with travelling around Czechia," says Jan Herget, Director of the Czech Tourism Authority – CzechTourism and adds: "That’s why, we have prepared at Kudy z nudy for example, an overview of Advent events at castles and chateaux or pre-Christmas events in UNESCO cities."

Only a tenth of Czech people wants to visit Christmas markets abroad. In general, Czechs want to spend a total of 8 days on winter vacation, just like last year. From domestic locations mainly in the Liberec (25%), Olomouc (18%) and Hradec Králové regions (17%). Most often, they want to stay in a guest house (40%) or at acquaintances or friends’ place (31%).

"Despite the difficult situation with energy, savings of mountain resort operators in Czechia shouldn’t concern the preparation of ski slopes or the operation of cable cars and ski lifts. The operators of mountain resorts are thus going to offer visitors services and experiences to the extent that guests are used to," says Director of the Association of Mountain Resorts Libor Knot and adds: "During the previous weekend, six mountain resorts were functioning and already the following Saturday, i.e. December 10, several large ski centres are about to start the ski season. For example, Špindlerův Mlýn or Dolní Morava will follow SkiResort Černá hora-Pec. The weather in mid-December promises snow and frost, so the kilometres of open ski slopes in the Czech mountains should add up quickly."

Czechs are planning to spend an average of CZK 6,361 per person on their winter holiday. The most on accommodation (46%) and food (17%). On average, people have 817 CZK prepared on culture, sports and sights during their winter vacation. The entire survey is available at www.tourdata.cz.
