The inhabitants of Austria plan to travel abroad this year much more (66%) than last year (34%) and the one before (27%). They are attracted to holidays by the sea, city tourism or wellness stays. Not only this was said at the online export workshop of the Czech Tourism Authority - CzechTourism. It focused on the Austrian and Swiss markets. The next event, where information about consumers and travellers from abroad will be heard, is going to take place on October 5. It will cover the USA, Canada, UK and Ireland.
Austrians most often go on vacation with their partners. They plan trips abroad mainly on the basis of recommendations from friends/acquaintances or websites. They stay in four-star hotels (52%) or apartments (41%). Cleanliness, together with safety, play the biggest role when choosing a place to stay. Significantly fewer Swiss come to the Czech Republic, but if they do, they stay longer than Austrians (1.9 days) – 3.4 days on average.
"I see great long-term potential in Austria. It is our neighboring country, but compared to Germany, Poland and Slovakia, noticeably fewer Austrians come to our country. Especially for Brno, South Bohemia and the Highlands, Austria could be one of the main foreign markets," says Jan Herget, Director of the Czech Tourism Authority - CzechTourism and adds: "The key is the ability to offer high quality of services that Austrians are used to from their home. "
If Austrians do not plan a trip abroad, they usually do so because of coronavirus restrictions (52%). Or because they believe that their country is the most beautiful (21%). The majority of Austrian tourists travel to their holiday destination by own car (77%) or by an aircraft (54%). During their vacation time, same as in the previous year, they are most attracted to swimming, restaurants, tasting local specialties or tourist attractions. The average budget of Austrians for foreign trips this year is €3,620.
Export workshops dedicated to the specifics of foreign markets are organized by CzechTourism throughout the whole year. "We have eight similar workshops planned this year. The penultimate dealt with the Hispanic market, Austrian one followed, and in October we are going to analyze the Anglo-Saxon market. All events are free of charge, we organize them with the aim of providing Czech entrepreneurs in the tourist industry with up-to-date information about various countries and advise them on how to attract and satisfy foreign visitors. Main topics are always the interest in the Czech Republic on the given market, consumer behavior or possibilities of cooperation," František Reismüller, Director of Marketing and Foreign Offices of the Czech Tourism Authority - CzechTourism, explains the benefits of professional seminars.
