Today, 5 June, we celebrate World Environment Day, an important day proclaimed by the United Nations (UN) in 1972. This day reminds us of the importance of caring for our planet and encourages us to reflect on the state of the environment and to actively contribute to its protection.
This year's theme, „Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience,“ highlights the critical challenges facing our soils and ecosystems. Land degradation, desertification and drought have serious impacts on agriculture, biodiversity and human health. Yet each of us can contribute to soil restoration and protection by taking the following steps:
  • Supporting sustainable agriculture: By buying produce from local farmers who use organic and sustainable farming methods.
  • Reducing water use: By conserving water in your home and garden through efficient irrigation systems and using rainwater.
  • By planting trees and shrubs: Vegetation helps retain water in the soil, improving soil quality and preventing erosion.
  • By supporting the restoration of degraded areas: By engaging in projects aimed at revitalising soils and restoring natural ecosystems.
The main objectives of the Czech Tourist Authority – CzechTourism include supporting sustainable travel and other activities that protect the environment in Czechia. Soon, the official website of the agency will feature a „Sustainability“ section where visitors will find all related activities in one place. We will inform you about its launch in due course.

Our planet is our home and each of us can contribute to its protection. Join the millions of people around the world who are making a commitment to protect the environment today. Small changes in our daily lives can have a big impact on the future of our planet.
