CzechTourism's foreign representation in Scandinavia and Finland presented itself at the Savonlinna Opera Festival at the turn of July and August. A week full of culture and experiences attracted visitors from all over the world. Visitors to the prestigious event were able to enjoy Czechia with all their senses - members of the National Theatre in Prague, which was a guest at the event, presented Czech culture in Czech, lovers of frothy beverages indulged in Czech beer in the courtyard of the medieval castle, and fans of picture memories could head to a special CzechTourism photo corner.
Czech Culture Week at Olavinlinna Castle
During the last week of the Savonlinna Opera Festival – from 27 July to 4 August – visitors could enjoy the Week of Czech Culture at Olavinlinna Castle. The National Theatre performed one of the most important classical operas ”The Bartered Bride”. The first festival performance was combined with a VIP event, which was organized by CzechTourism and the Finnish Embassy.

”The CelebrationYear of Czech Music was really successful in Finland. The National Theatre's participation in the prestigious opera festival of this format, where the artists performed for the first time since 1991, was appreciated by the local audience with enthusiastic ovations. We invited representatives of the Finnish media, travel trade and important influencers to see the performance of one of the most famous Czech composers. In the tent, which was located right in the courtyard of the medieval castle Olavinlinna, they had the opportunity not only to get information about cultural events in Czechia, but also to take a nice memory in our photo corner. Participation in the festival was the culmination of the activities for this year's important anniversary, for which we also prepared a special press trip and micro-campaign in the spring," says Lucie Vallin, Director of the CzechTourism Foreign Representation in Scandinavia and Finland.

Cultural experiences attract visitors to Czechia
CzechTourism's foreign representation in Scandinavia and Finland extended its presentation at the festival for a whole week and attracted visitors to Czechia for cultural experiences. In addition, they could enter a competition to win tickets to the Prague Spring 2025 festival and the National Theatre next season.

”Czechia has a lot to offer in the field of culture not only to Finnish tourists. Our world-famous musical greats such as Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák are regularly included in the repertoire of prestigious stages of the world cultural scene. At home, visitors from abroad can hear them performed by our Philharmonic Orchestra and Opera in historic concert halls and theatres. There are countless international festivals taking place in our country and the jazz scene will also meet the expectations of even the most demanding music fans,” adds Director of Marketing and Foreign Representations of CzechTourism Jana Štumpová Konicarová, who also attended the gala performance in Finland.

Partnership with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Finland
Together with CzechTourism, the Czech Embassy in Helsinki was also a partner of the event and participated in the hosting of the National Theatre in Prague and the preparation of the Czech photography exhibition in Savonlinna.

"This summer Savonlinna offered all interested parties a unique opportunity to enjoy Czech culture in its many forms! Visitors were able to see an exhibition of photographs by leading Czech artists at the Riihisaari Museum, a world-class opera performance, and finally taste delicious Czech beer at Olavinlinna Castle. Since the promotion of Czech culture is one of the tasks of our Embassy, it was very important for us to participate in the perfectly realized Summer of Czech Culture in Savonlinna,” concludes Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Finland Adam Vojtěch.
