Tourist interest in Czechia is growing, especially among foreign travellers. Václav Havel Airport Prague handled almost 11.5 million passengers from the end of March to the end of October, which is 7.7% more than a year ago. The number of foreign visitors increased, accounting for 54.5% of all passengers in the summer. Czechia welcomed 7.9 million tourists in the third quarter of this year, including 3.4% more foreign visitors year-on-year. This is based on the latest data from CzechTourism, Prague Airport and the Czech Inn Hotels network.
From the airport's point of view, the summer season is defined from the end of March to the end of October. During this period, almost 11.5 million passengers were handled at Václav Havel Airport Prague this year, up 7.7% year-on-year.
"Last year, for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic, we recorded a slight predominance of foreign passengers, and this trend has become even stronger this year. Foreign passengers accounted for 54.5% of all passengers checked in this summer season. Thus, there were 3 million arrivals to our airport this summer. This is a year-on-year increase of 1.4 percentage points," says Jiří Vyskoč, Executive Director of Air Business Development at Prague Airport. The most frequent tourists flying to Czechia are from the UK, Italy and Spain.
Since the beginning of the year, the biggest year-on-year increase in passengers is characterised by air connections with Great Britain (163,000 more passengers), followed by the United Arab Emirates (148,000 more passengers) and Germany (almost 116,000 more passengers).
"The increase in the number of passengers from these countries is due to the fact that we have brought new carriers to Václav Havel Airport Prague and opened new routes in cooperation with them. Etihad Airways has been operating a new scheduled service to Abu Dhabi since June this year. The collaboration with Emirates has seen the deployment of the world's largest passenger aircraft on the Prague–Dubai route, the Airbus A380. And it has also managed to bring Condor, which operates twice-daily services to Frankfurt, Germany," explains Jiří Vyskoč of Prague Airport.
Interest from distant countries is growing
During the third quarter of this year, a total of 7.9 million tourists headed to domestic mass accommodation facilities, up 1.4% year-on-year. Domestic tourists accounted for 58.2% of all arrivals, while foreign visitors accounted for 41.8%. Domestic arrivals thus remained stable, while foreign visitors increased by 3.4%. The largest numbers of foreign travellers came from Germany (660,000), Poland (340,000) and Slovakia (288,000) during July-September, while tourists from the UK and Austria also grew. Prague remains the most popular destination, welcoming over 2.2 million visitors, with high visitor numbers also in the South Moravia (848,000 visitors) and South Bohemia regions (792,000 visitors). The Karlovy Vary Region had the longest average length of stay (4.8 days), which is consistent with its spa character. On the other hand, shorter stays are typical for Prague (3.4 days) and the South Moravian Region (3.2 days).
"Czechia attracts tourists all year round and to all regions. Traditional neighbouring markets hold a strong position, but destinations further afield are also growing rapidly – from the Arabian Peninsula to Brazil to Japan. Compared to 2019, the period before the covid-19 pandemic, some markets are significantly outperforming the numbers then. For example, in the case of Turkey we see an increase in the number of arrivals of more than 100%, in the case of Saudi Arabia by almost 45% and in the case of Poland by almost 43%. Another very positive factor is that values are growing year-on-year across the whole of Czechia," explains František Reismüller, director of the Czech Tourist Authority – CzechTourism, and adds: "From January to September 2025, 18.3 million guests arrived in Czechia, spending 46.7 million nights here. The average length of stay was 3.55 days. Growing interest from distant markets, the return of Asian tourists and steady domestic demand are creating a strong foundation for further tourism development across the country.“
Hotels lead among accommodation establishments
During July to September 2025, visitors spent a total of 21.2 million nights in domestic hotels, guesthouses and other mass accommodations. This is an increase of 1 % year-on-year. Hotels – remained the number one accommodation facility used by 4.8 million guests, i.e. 60% of all visitors. They improved by 4.1% year-on-year, with domestic guests up 3.1% and foreign guests up 2.7%. A total of 2.7 million hotel guests came from abroad.
"We live in an interconnected world, where information appears on the other side of the world every second. This also affects the hotel market. People are no longer travelling for sightseeing, but want events, modern transport, a functioning economy and new accommodation options,“ evaluates the results Jaroslav Svoboda, owner of Czech Inn Hotels, the largest Czech hotel group, which accommodated over 2 million guests in 2024, and adds: "If the economy performs well and we support tourism, we have the potential to go even higher in Czechia."
