HomeSummer season in Czechia - more tourists, longer stays and interest from distant countries
July to September 2025 attracted 7.9 million guests who spent 21.2 million nights in domestic hotels, guesthouses and other mass accommodation facilities. Domestic tourists accounted for 58.2% of all arrivals, while foreigners accounted for 41.8%. The average length of stay was 3.7 days. The data confirms that interest in Czechia continues to grow - both among residents and foreign travellers.

Metropolis leads, regions strengthen

Most foreign visitors came from Germany (660,000), Poland (340,000) and Slovakia (288,000). Tourist interest from the UK and Austria also grew.

Prague remains the most popular destination – welcoming over 2.2 million visitors, almost a third of all arrivals. This was followed by South Moravia (848,000) and South Bohemia (792,000), which attracted visitors to cultural events, wineries and natural beauty. The South Bohemia (2.3 million) and South Moravia (1.9 million) regions followed Prague (5.3 million nights) in terms of overnight stays.

The Karlovy Vary Region has the longest average length of stay – 4.8 days, which is consistent with its spa character. In contrast, shorter, often weekend, stays are typical for Prague (3.4 days) and the South Moravian Region (3.2 days).

Stable growth and new markets

Long-term trends since 2012 show that visitor numbers to Czechia are growing steadily. The pandemic temporarily interrupted the growth, but tourism has recovered quickly – not only in the capital, but also in other regions, including those of spa and recreation. Foreign tourists are still mostly coming from neighbouring countries, but are also newly discovering lesser-known areas across the country. Travellers from Asia, the Middle East and Latin America are also increasingly heading to Czechia.

Skokanis of the Year: growth from far-flung destinations

Compared to summer 2024, arrivals and overnight stays increased by 1.4% and 1% respectively. Domestic visitor arrivals remained stable, while international visitors grew by 3.4%. The largest increases were seen in markets from the UAE (+33.9%), Turkey (+31.6%), Argentina (+24%) and Japan (+21.5%).

„Czechia attracts tourists all year round and to all regions. Traditional neighbouring markets hold a strong position, but destinations further afield are also growing rapidly – from the Arabian Peninsula to Brazil to Japan. Compared to 2019, some markets are significantly outperforming those numbers. For example, we see an increase in arrivals of more than 100% for Turkey, almost 45% for Saudi Arabia and almost 43% for Poland. Our priority is to maintain this positive trend, increase the length of stays and increase tourist spending. The most lucrative countries at the moment are Germany, the USA, the UK and Italy. We are also targeting distant markets such as China, Canada and the Arab states, summarizes Director of the Czech Tourist Authority – CzechTourism František Reismüller and adds: „The average length of stay was 3.55 days. Growing interest from distant markets, the return of Asian tourists and stable domestic demand are creating a strong foundation for further tourism development across the country.“

Hotels as popular choice of stay, guesthouses also growing

Hotels remained the number one accommodation choice in Q3 2025 – 4.8 million guests, or 60% of all visitors, used them. They improved 4.1% year-on-year, with domestic guests up 3.1% and international guests up 2.7%. A total of 2.7 million hotel guests came from abroad.

Guesthouses welcomed 1.1 million guests, an increase of 4.5%. The share of foreign tourists was one-fifth, but their numbers rose by 3.4%. Compared to the same period last year, foreign visitor arrivals increased by 9.7%.

On the other hand, campsites saw a decline – arrivals fell by 10.9% year-on-year, while overnight stays fell by 8.2%. However, more guests arrived at cottage villages and tourist hostels, which improved in both arrivals and overnight stays.
