Brno has made it to the selection of the ten most attractive European destinations for 2026. The prestigious 1000thingsmagazine.com magazine has ranked it 5th, which significantly increases the visibility not only of the city, but of the entire South Moravian Region in key foreign markets. The success confirms the growing interest in Czechia and opens up further space for the development of tourism in the region.
South Moravia on course: growing interest of domestic and foreign visitors
The South Moravia region has long been one of the most visited areas of Czechia. Last year, 2.2 million tourists visited the region, 736,000 of them from abroad. From January to September 2025, 1.78 million visitors arrived, 611,000 of whom were foreigners. They spent more than one million nights in the region.
Brno and its surroundings have long ranked among the most sought-after destinations in Czechia, right after Prague. Last year, more than a million travellers chose to visit the city, spending 1.7 million nights there, with almost half of them foreign guests. From January to September this year, the Moravian capital welcomed nearly 777,000 visitors. They stayed in Brno for 1.4 million nights and stayed an average of 2.8 days, with a balanced share of domestic and foreign guests.
„The positive impact on visitor arrivals to Brno and the region as a whole can also be significantly strengthened in the coming years the first ever edition of the MICHELIN Guide to Czechia. It clearly confirms Brno as one of the country's main gastronomic hotspots. Although the city did not win a Michelin star this year, several Brno establishments appeared among the MICHELIN recommended restaurants and also in the Bib Gourmand category. This is a strong signal to foreign and domestic visitors that Brno offers top gastronomy at the European level,“ says Director of the Czech Tourist Authority – CzechTourism František Reismüller.
South Moravia attracts visitors through its unique combination of culture, monuments, nature, wine and gastronomy. Brno complements this offer as a modern centre full of architecture, atmosphere and experiences that work all year round.
„The region has long attracted a wide range of visitors. Popular with cyclists, it offers UNESCO sites, unique caves of the Moravian Karst and strong local traditions. Increasingly, it is also emerging as a destination for MICE tourism, thanks to the growing interest of conference and professional meeting organisers in locations outside the main cities. Another distinct advantage is gastronomy, which is systematically presented in the Gourmet South Moravia guide. The top level of the local cuisine is also newly confirmed by the Michelin star restaurant Essens in the Lednica-Valtice area," adds director of the Tourism Centre – South Moravia Martina Grůzová.
Great opportunity for the whole region
„Brno's inclusion among the top European destinations is a great chance to bring even more travellers to the region. South Moravia offers an incredibly diverse mix of experiences – from architectural gems to wine villages to vibrant culture. Brno has a strong reputation in Austria and this selection will add to its appeal. It benefits not only the city but the whole region," says Markéta Valenta, Director of the CzechTourism Foreign Representation for Austria and Switzerland.
The magazine particularly appreciated iconic places such as Villa Tugendhat, Brno's underground, historic water reservoirs, Spilberk Castle, Christmas markets or the local gastronomic scene. He described Brno as a „young, lively and stylish city“ that offers quality experiences in summer and winter.
