HomeThe Ore Mountains invite you to the last big hike of the summer. EURORANDO 2026 is just around the corner
Enjoy the fading summer one last time in hiking boots, cross the border, and meet hikers from all corners of the world in one place. From September 20 to 27, EURORANDO 2026 will take over the Czech-Saxon Ore Mountains. The organizers of Europe’s largest hiking festival are putting the finishing touches on their preparations and extend an invitation: “The Ore Mountains are ready to welcome visitors. Dozens of hiking trails, excursions to UNESCO sites, culture, regional cuisine, and the atmosphere of an extraordinary European gathering await them.”
This year, at the end of summer, people won’t be heading to the Ore Mountains just for day trips. For one week in September, this mountain range will become a meeting place for tourists from all over Europe. EURORANDO takes place only once every five years, and this year’s sixth edition will be the first cross-border event in its history. Boží Dar and Kurort Oberwiesenthal will serve as the festival’s main hubs. Partner cities Jáchymov, Loučná pod Klínovcem, Johanngeorgenstadt, and Breitenbrunn have also prepared a rich program.

The significance of the festival is also confirmed by Tereza Hofmanová, Director of the Czech Tourist Authority – CzechTourism: “EURORANDO is a great opportunity for Czechia to showcase not only the Ore Mountains to people from all over Europe. It will showcase both the region’s stunning natural beauty and the shared Czech-Saxon history, UNESCO sites, local traditions, and cuisine. At the same time, it will help raise the Czech Republic’s profile abroad as a fantastic destination for active vacations. Our country offers truly exceptional conditions for hiking enthusiasts. In addition to a beautiful and varied landscape, we have more than 44,000 kilometers of hiking trails and trail markings that are among the best in the world. What’s more, everything is close by. In a single day, you can head out into nature, visit a historic site, enjoy a good lunch, and perhaps relax at a spa in the evening. Foreign visitors, especially from Germany, Poland, and the Netherlands. Hiking is also popular among residents, as confirmed by our current survey regarding Czechs’ plans for their fall vacations.“

Organizers are currently finalizing the last details of the program and visitor facilities. A total of 56 hiking trails have been prepared—19 Czech, 25 German, and 12 cross-border trails—31 of which will be available with a guide. The program will also feature full-day sightseeing bus tours, visits to historic towns, mines and adits, technical landmarks and scenic viewpoints, sports activities, rides on historic railroads, concerts, exhibitions, lectures, and markets featuring regional products. But EURORANDO isn’t just about the kilometers you walk. Its purpose is also to explore the Ore Mountains together, discover their history and stories on both sides of the border, and share common experiences. The central theme of the event is the Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019.

Thousands of participants will be welcomed not only by the organizers but also by a team of volunteers who will be assisting directly on the ground. One of them will be Nicole Kilíková, who lives in Spain and is coming to the Ore Mountains specifically for EURORANDO.

“I’ve known about the EURORANDO festival since 2023, when I learned from the Krušnohoří/Erzgebirge Destination Agency that the Ore Mountains had been selected as the next festival destination,“ she says. Her personal connection to the region was the main reason she decided to get involved in the organization. “I love the Ore Mountains, and whenever I have the opportunity, I try to share their stories with those around me. I therefore see my role as a guide and interpreter for international participants as a unique opportunity to introduce this exceptional region to people from all corners of the world.“

One of the program’s most memorable moments will be on Saturday, September 26. At the former border between Boží Dar and Oberwiesenthal, the Stone Heart of Europe—created from stones that participants will bring from their home countries—will be unveiled. This will be followed by a cross-border parade and the festival’s closing ceremony.

Whether visitors want to hike twenty kilometers, take a shorter trip, or simply enjoy the atmosphere of the Ore Mountains at the turn of summer and fall, EURORANDO offers the opportunity to experience this region a little differently this time—and together with people from all over Europe.

EURORANDO 2026 will take place from September 20 to 27, 2026. A single ticket costs 10 EUR and is sold online; during the event, it will be available for 15 EUR. Guided tours, bus tours, and other activities with limited capacity must be reserved in advance. Visitors can find the current program, information on individual routes, transportation, accommodations, tickets, and reservations at www.eurorando2026.eu.

The festival is organized by the Krušnohoří Destination Agency, the Erzgebirge Tourism Association, and the Czech Tourist Club—Ústí nad Labem Region, in cooperation with partner cities and municipalities. The project is supported by the Interreg Saxony–Czech Republic 2021–2027 program.
