International experts to discuss domestic tourist offer in Brno

HomeCzechia in the world's spotlight, Czechia Travel Trade Day begins
Last year, South Moravia welcomed the highest number of guests from the Czech Republic in the last ten years. It was about 1.5 million residents, while ca. 525 thousand foreign tourists visited the South Moravian Region. The region, which is, apart from Prague, one of the most visited in the country in the heart of Europe, was thus visited by a total of about 2 million tourists in 2022. In practice, this means a year-on-year increase of 49.4%, with only 6.9% fewer tourists compared to the period before the covid-19 pandemic. The Czechia Travel Trade Day is helping with the return of tourism and in particular the promotion of foreign visitors. It starts today in Brno.
The so-called TTD is one of the largest domestic events in support of incoming tourism. It aims to promote the rich tourist offer of the Czech Republic in the regions and contribute to the development of inbound tourism. It is a two-day event full of intensive international business meetings. It also includes sightseeing tours of the South Moravian Region for foreign travel agencies.

This year's Czechia Travel Trade Day is organized by the Czech Tourism Centre – CzechTourism in cooperation with the  Central Tourist Office – South Moravia and the City of Brno. 74 tourism companies from 23 countries confirmed their participation and all 100 packages for domestic guests were sold out. This means representatives of domestic incoming agencies, hotels, regions, regional Convention Bureaus, service providers in the tourism industry and tourist destinations themselves (e.g. Janáček or South Bohemian Theatre, Moravian Beauty Foundation, Prague Boats, Fashion Arena, etc.).

„From the data of our Tourism Institute, it is clear that the South Moravian Region is among the prime locations in attracting tourists; last year it was the second most visited region after Prague. People came to South Moravia mainly for recreation, most often by car or motorbike and mostly with a partner. They mainly visited cultural sights, foreign tourists also visited relatives or acquaintances, while domestic guests focused on hiking and natural tourist destinations,” says Director of the Czech Tourism Centre – CzechTourism Jan Herget and adds: „While a Czech tourist spent an average of CZK 1,040 per person per day in South Moravia, a guest from abroad spent CZK 1,914. Not only for this reason, it is crucial to support the return of foreign tourists, always taking into account a reasonable distribution of tourism in the region, i.e. sustainability. Therefore, I am very pleased that in addition to the traditionally most visited tourist destinations, which in 2021 in the South Moravian Region included Aqualand Moravia, Svatý Kopeček – The Way of the Cross in Mikulov, Brno ZOO, Lednice Castle and DinoPark Vyškov, they are preparing a number of new features for the 2023 season in South Moravia and Brno.“

Of the foreign tourists, the South Moravian Region is mostly visited by guests from Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Austria and Lithuania. The average length of stay is around 3 days. Therefore, in order to make more tourists stay longer, the Tourism Centre – South Moravia will supplement its campaign „Don't stop, travel” this year with another theme. People will be able to see inside wine buildings, find out how wine is produced and how architecture positively influences the wine tasting experience. And from autumn, it will be possible to use the economically advantageous tourist cards when travelling in South Moravia.

„We try to present South Moravia differently every year, from a new perspective, in a fresh way and also with regard to the expectations of guests and new tourist trends. That is why this year we will combine modern architecture with the art of making great wines, so that a stay with us is a complete experience. We are also planning activities related to the personalities of Napoleon, Mucha or Mendel, and as far as gastro tourism is concerned, we want to continue the Gourmet South Moravia project and the @tastymoravia project, to which a brand new Festival of Tastes will be added,“ says
Director of the Tourism Centre – South Moravia Martina Grůzová and adds: „All this will be supported in autumn by the South Moravian Tourist Card, which will offer guests a large number of experiences at more favourable prices. So that they get to know our region as much as possible, experience it from all possible angles and we can better set up and develop the offer of South Moravia as a destination based on how the card will be used.“

The increase in interest in individual places is significantly helped by the so-called MICE, i.e. convention tourism. In South Moravia and in Brno they are very aware of this. TTD is thus – after last year's conference for digital content creators and bloggers from all over the world Traverse 22 - another important international event focused on tourism, which is held in Brno. Data from the organizing CzechTourism agency show, among other things, that the most popular locations in South Moravia according to the local government units of the so-called ORP (municipalities with extended competence) last year included Brno with 375,795 guests, of which 246 050 were domestic tourists and 129 745 foreigners. This was followed by Znojmo with 176 902 visitors and Breclav with 143 750 guests.

„In Brno, we have a tourist season all year round. Whether visitors come for a weekend or a week, they enjoy the legendary vibrant centre that sets Brno apart from other metropolises. Great gastronomy mixes with a range of music festivals,” says Director of the Tourist Information Centre of the City of Brno Jana Tichá Janulíková
and adds: „If I should mention one theme for this year, it is the Brno underground, which is worth visiting even from afar. Every place has a different atmosphere and experience, and everyone will find something to do on hot summer days. For example, we have newly opened the authentic and raw Denis fallout shelter, a multimedia exhibition about the history and legends of the city named The Fiery Horse and Dragon in the cellar under the New Town Hall and then there is a real European rarity – the Water Reservoirs under the Yellow Hill.“

Czechia Travel Trade Day helps to make sure that as many people as possible learn about the new things that the South Moravian Region and Brno are preparing for tourists, that they are included in the offers of travel agencies from all over the world and that more tourists come to the Czech Republic.

„The average occupancy rate during the May Day holiday in the South Moravian Region is 73.44%, while in the Czech Republic as a whole, it was 51.73%, according to the most recently downloaded data from Data Rhythm based on Booking.com. The average May price per night in a double room in South Moravia is CZK 2,790, while in the whole country it is CZK 2,628,“ says
Director of the Department of Product Management, Research and B2B Cooperation of the Czech Tourism Centre – CzechTourism Veronika Janečková and concludes: „Most accommodation for the 1 May weekend is booked in Brno, already from 88.4% with an average price of 4 242 CZK. Apartments are almost completely occupied in the South Moravian metropolis (96.49%), with an average price 6 719 CZK and guesthouses up to 97.14% with an average price 2 716 CZK. Reservations in hotels in Brno on 1 May, where the average price according to the latest information is CZK 3 732, reach 59.57%. With this data in mind, we have prepared sightseeing tours throughout the South Moravian Region in cooperation with our partners as part of this year's TTD. In order to spread the interest in accommodation and tourism as such throughout the region, we give the participants of our event the opportunity to get to know South Moravia in all its forms.“

Sightseeing tours accompanying Czechia Travel Trade Day 2023 take place from 21 to 25 April. The participants were able to see, for example, the Lednice Chateau, the Slavic Epic of Alfons Mucha in Moravský Krumlov, the Pálava Hills, the towns of Mikulov, Valtice and Znojmo, the Mendel Museum, the Podyjí National Park, the Moravian Karst, unique tourist destinations directly in Brno, etc. Information about all places and many more is also available on one of the biggest tourist portals, Kudy z nudy.cz.
