5,000 world destinations and brands, 100 professional presentations, including the Czech National Exhibition or a workshop focused on the MICE sector. This is what this year's World Travel Market (WTM) looked like, which took place in London. The three-day event is one of the biggest in the field of European B2B meetings related to tourism. This year, the Czech Republic participated for the first time with the Traverse creator award. It was acquired by CzechTourism. According to creators of digital content about travelling, it is the best company to collaborate with in the travel industry.
22 Czech companies exhibited at the Czech National Exhibition at the British WTM. In addition to a number of hotels, chains and travel agencies, for example national carrier České dráhy, Tourist Authority South Moravia, Central Bohemian Tourist Authority or Smartwings. Dozens of work meetings took place, new partnerships and collaborations were established. Interest in tourism is growing significantly, the numbers regarding travelling to Czechia in the 3rd quarter are almost the same as they were before the covid-19 pandemic.

“At WTM, the key global B2B travel trade fair, was possible to meet all the big players. And also, to get to know the intentions for the future. For example, the fact that Saudi Arabia will invest 860 billion dollars in the tourist industry in next ten years and will train 100,000 young people from the 'tourism industry' every year," says Director of the Czech Tourism Authority - CzechTourism Jan Herget and adds: "So after Dubai another strong competition for Europe and the Czech Republic. If we want to remain competitive in the long term, we must significantly boost not only our work, but also the budget invested in promotion of Czechia."

Czech partners met 30 representatives of the British MICE sector at a networking evening focused on congress tourism to the Czech Republic. The event at the National Liberal Club in London was organized by CzechTourism in cooperation with the Czech Convention Bureau. Its aim was to help establish contacts and thus to support not only the visibility of the Czech Republic, but mainly the interest of British companies in holding congresses, conferences, exhibitions etc. in Czechia.

"WTM and MICE networking evenings are already a tradition on the UK market and there is a great interest from both British and Czech partners. We see a great potential in the MICE sector and, together with the foreign representation in London, we are planning a number of activities in 2023," says Senior manager of the Czech Convention Bureau, Tereza Hofmanová and adds: "For example, a MICE trip for British buyers, a workshop or a road show outside of London should take place, and representatives from Great Britain will certainly be able to participate in the Events Club Forum, which we want to organize again in Prague next year."

This year's WTM was the first ever event where CzechTourism could present itself as a proud holder of the Traverse Creator Awards. The foreign representation of the CzechTourism agency for Great Britain and Ireland team won it. The team - together with the South Moravia Tourist Authority and the municipality of the statutory city of Brno - stands behind  the last conference for bloggers and influencers from around the world, Traverse 22.

"We are extremely happy about the award, especially since we stood up to a tough competition from tourist authorities on the British market, such as Spain. It is great to see that the community of content creators perceives our collaboration and activities positively. This award is the highlight of our long-term cooperation," says Katarína Hobbs, Director of the CzechTourism foreign representation in the UK with a presence in Ireland.

At the same time, the British team of CzechTourism is also behind another nomination of the agency. According to a vote of the readers of Wanderlust magazine, which is going to celebrate its 30th birthday next year, the Czech Republic is among the most attractive countries for travelling. It thus received a nomination for the prestigious Wanderlust Travel Awards.
