Gastronomic tourism. Special tourism, which works very well in Czechia. That is also because Czech Specials restaurants and cake shops exist, i.e., gastronomic facilities that offer an exceptional taste experience. One of the latest activities that supported food and drink travel in Czechia both, at home and abroad, was the success of Czech National team of chefs and confectioners at the Culinary World Cup. A new cookbook, Recipes from Travel inn U Jiskrů too. And today, that means, this Wednesday, the documentary series Tales of old pubs will premiere on Czech TV.
Inns across Czechia will be presented in the eight-part series. There will be interesting facts about beer, which is an integral part of domestic gastronomy. After all, brewing this drink has a thousand-year-old tradition here. "Beer is often associated with the unique architecture of breweries, beer trails or specific culture of Czech pubs with a remarkable atmosphere that’s worth experiencing," says Jan Herget, Director of the Czech Tourism Authority – CzechTourism and adds: "All this will show the new TV series Tales of old pubs, on which creation we participated. The show will guide actor Josef Polášek, who will interview regulars, old-timers and historians."
Gourmet experiences in Czechia include wine as well. Czech and Moravian wines are celebrating international success and tourists can enjoy them both in traditional wine cellars and in modern design wineries. A picturesque landscape, authentic regional cuisine, traditions, and folklore are not missing. That is why this March, because of collaboration of CzechTourism, National Wine Centre/Salon of Wines and wine regions, Czechia is going to present itself at the International Conference for Wine Tourism in Spanish Tarragona for the first time ever. And in mid-July also at the National Geographic Food Traveller Festival in London. If it succeeds, similar to the recent Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg, the footprint of domestic gastronomy abroad will get enlarge again, as will the interest in travelling to and around Czechia.
"We trained really hard for the Culinary World Cup. National Agricultural Museum provided us with a sensational "gym" and CzechTourism with great support. Also, thanks to them, we brought several gold and bronze medals home from the world cup. A huge thanks to all the team members for the wonderful work they have done and all partners for their support. I believe that you will continue to favour us in the future, in 2024 the Olympics in Stuttgart await us," says Manager of the National Team of Chefs and Confectioners of the Association of Chefs and Confectioners of the Czech Republic, Tomáš Popp.
At December World Culinary Cup, the national team of chefs and confectioners won a bronze medal for a Chefs table for 12 people and the same medal for a three-course menu for 110 people. Two members of the team placed even better in individual categories – Vojtěch Petržela won 3 x gold for carving, Iva Roháčová has the most valuable metal for individual sculpture. You can have a look at what it was like at the World Culinary Cup 2022 at https://www.vatel.lu/, a number of information can be found at https://narodnitymkucharu.cz/and on Facebook of Czech Specials.
On the last-mentioned channel is possible to read about another gastronomic attraction. New cookbook Recipes from Travel inn U Jiskrů. It was published at the end of November; it has 260 pages and contains 95 recipes which are popular among the inn’s guests. The book does not lack topics such as Dumpling Heaven, Vegetarian “zabijačka” or M.D. Rettig's Birthday. Everything comes from Martin Jiskra's inn in the village of Kbelnice, halfway between Strakonice and Písek. “Our travel inn has always been a symbol of a journey, stopping by and continuing. After travelling around the world with a wooden spoon in hand, I finally built my own business focused on authentic Czech dishes. These are what are our guests attract and appreciate the most," says Chef and Owner of Travel inn U Jiskrů, Martin Jiskra and adds: "I cooked myself all the recipes that you will find in the cookbook, tasted them, cooked them again, and then wrote them all down. With the aim of making readers happy, i.e., people who like good food. Hopefully it was successful, judging by the publication's godfathers Jirka Lábus, Vilda Udatný and Lukáš Hejlík."
Increasing the visibility of domestic tourism is one of the tasks of CzechTourism. Gastronomic tourism, as one of the products this year, is also supported by this year's campaign on the theme of traditions, i.e. Come experience the traditional and the new. And within the previously mentioned Czech Specials.
"In the Czech Specials project, CzechTourism supported both the Czech team's participation in the Culinary World Cup and the publication of the recipe book Recipes from the Travel inn U Jiskrů. We want to gradually include some recipes from it on the website www.czechspecials.cz/recepty. Currently, you can already "taste" there, for example, baked mushroom goulash. And if you go on a trip to taste it, during which you will also get to know other beauties of the South Bohemian Region, you will get to know yourself how pleasant gastronomic tourism can be," concludes Jan Herget, Director of the Czech Tourism Authority - CzechTourism.
